Position Summary
The Utilities and Process Maintenance Manager is tasked with overseeing the daily functions of all power plant apparatus, including steam boilers, ammonia refrigeration systems, compressed air systems, plant water systems, and CO2 systems. This role demands a high degree of technical expertise in power plant operations, utilities management, ammonia refrigeration, and process maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective maintenance procedures for Brewing, Batching, Warehousing, Facilities, and Power Plant operations.
- Monitor and enhance the operational programs for Utilities, Water Treatment, Ammonia Systems, and Power Plant, ensuring timely reporting of outcomes.
- Maintain and optimize a preventive maintenance system (CMMS).
- Prepare Mechanical specifications for P&ID's and maintain a P&ID database, including numbering, tagging, and graphical symbols.
- Define mechanical design parameters for equipment and piping components, including safety relief valve design and control valve Cv calculations.
- Generate initial material take-offs for piping and valves as necessary.
- Provide comprehensive financial justifications for proposed equipment or process-related capital expenditures.
- Oversee projects and operations to ensure compliance with budgetary and timeline constraints.
- Develop and supervise projects to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Effectively identify and communicate deviations from specifications to relevant regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with the Process Safety Management program.
- Manage the preparation, execution, and oversight of departmental Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with other Department Heads to address Process Maintenance Department concerns.
- Ensure departmental practices align with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Lead and motivate a team of hourly and salaried employees to optimize departmental labor efficiency.
- Facilitate staff training and development within a learning-oriented environment.
- Support subordinate development through training and mentorship, including recruitment for departmental positions.
- Engage with project-specific contractors as necessary.
Additional Responsibilities
- Exemplify leadership qualities and foster a results-driven environment.
- Collaborate with fellow Managers/Supervisors to prioritize the overall needs of the company.
- Innovate and enhance manufacturing processes for product production, including machinery selection and redesign.
- Perform other duties as required to support business objectives.
This position description serves as a guideline for the responsibilities of the Utilities and Process Maintenance Manager. It is designed to encourage creativity and initiative within the scope of this role.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, with a focus on manufacturing.
- 3 to 5 years of managerial experience in Power Plant oversight, preferably within the Food or Beverage sector.
- Familiarity with Process Safety Management, particularly regarding Ammonia Systems.
- Ability to work independently and apply hands-on problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and capability to work with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to express differing opinions from organizational leadership.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic business environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team setting.
- Self-motivated and knowledgeable across a broad range of topics.
