Nightwing is seeking a skilled Lead Linux Systems Engineer to join our dedicated IT team, focusing on the Londinium Program. This program is a collaborative effort involving a mix of Linux (80%) and Windows (20%) systems, alongside virtualization, storage, networking, hardware, and data center engineering.


The ideal candidate will possess extensive Linux expertise and will be responsible for managing a diverse range of basic and advanced computing and network configurations. The role demands both independent work and teamwork within an integrated product team.


Key Responsibilities:

The Lead Linux Systems Engineer will be tasked with:

  • Designing, deploying, and overseeing expansive Linux network environments, including installation and configuration.
  • Managing system and application software installation, updates, and removals.
  • Enhancing the security of Linux server installations.
  • Overseeing the installation and configuration of system hardware such as servers and workstations.
  • Configuring network file systems and storage solutions.
  • Monitoring and optimizing system resources, including CPU, memory, and storage.
  • Creating and maintaining scripts for automation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Conducting audits of system log files and ensuring compliance.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues effectively.
  • Documenting system configurations, maintenance history, and backup protocols.
  • Implementing and updating system policies and procedures.
  • Managing operating system updates and patches.
  • Utilizing configuration management tools for centralized system management.
  • Analyzing complex network and system performance issues.
  • Responding to inquiries related to computer and network operations.
  • Managing user and group accounts.
  • Experience with container orchestration technologies.

Additionally, candidates should have a proven track record in upgrading Linux systems and transitioning to new configuration management environments.


Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent experience is required, along with a minimum of four years of relevant experience. Equivalent military training and experience in IT may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Applicants should have at least five years of relevant experience in the intelligence community as a system administrator, with a total of seven years of experience in system administration.
