Nurse - Behavioral Health Specialist

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a behavioral health setting. This includes supervising the care provided by other staff members, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and assessing and re-assessing patient needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide and coordinate care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs of clients, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining accurate medical records.
- Assess client status on an ongoing basis and document pertinent information.
- Ensure nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and initial treatment plans are completed upon admission.
- Accurately administer medications per ordered note and document accurate count of controlled substances.
- Notify physicians of significant changes in patient status, such as difficulties with detox or medical emergencies.
- Supervise self-administration of medications and maintain accountability of administration, recording, control, and security of medications.
- Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed.
- Confer regularly with the treatment team regarding client care and participate in unit activities such as therapy groups and family meetings.
- Provide education and explanation to clients, families, and coworkers regarding medication usage, client rights, and other topics necessary for optimal client care.
- Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing.
- One or more years of nursing experience within a clinical area of service provided by the facility, preferably in behavioral health or psychiatric care.
- Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
