About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Protection Operations Supervisor to join our team at the State of Connecticut. As a key member of our Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, you will be responsible for supervising a staff responsible for performing a range of complex assignments dealing with the State Park Division's field operations in the Eastern half of the state.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule, assign, oversee, and review the work of staff
  • Provide staff training and assistance
  • Conduct performance evaluations
  • Determine priorities and plan area work
  • Establish and maintain area procedures
  • Develop or make recommendations on the development of policies and standards
  • Act as liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding policies and procedures
  • Prepare reports and correspondence, including reports on use and condition of facilities
  • Supervise development and maintenance projects on state-owned facilities and land, including parks, forests, wildlife management areas, recreation facilities, and hatcheries
  • Analyze maintenance operations and programs and recommend changes
  • Coordinate utilization of equipment and personnel
  • Oversee special programs
  • Act as a department representative
  • May assist in preparation of land acquisition, use, and development plans
Requirements
  • Seven (7) years of experience in operation, development, and maintenance of natural resources programs and facilities
  • College training in the areas of civil engineering or natural resources management may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree
  • A Master's degree in civil engineering or natural resources management may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the development and implementation of staff training programs
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience managing conflict and team building
  • Experience assigning, overseeing, and reviewing work of staff
  • Experience in the development and implementation of parks and recreation policies
  • Experience coordinating utilization of equipment and personnel
  • Experience in the methods, materials, and equipment of construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of building equipment and grounds
  • Experience in land use planning
  • Experience in recreational law enforcement
  • Experience initiating infrastructure projects, including scope of work development, bidding, and contractor oversight
Special Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license
