Job Title: Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Equipment Maintenance Supervisor to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Equipment Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating in-house equipment maintenance activities for the Western Operations and Maintenance water facilities. This includes overseeing staff deployment for maintenance and upkeep of all western equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and direct equipment maintenance staff to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations.
  • Plan and coordinate equipment repairs and replacements, including predictive, preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
  • Develop and implement a formal equipment inspection program to ensure equipment is properly maintained.
  • Work closely with the work coordination group to utilize MAXIMO maintenance work order planning and scheduling system to ensure equipment maintenance work is identified, planned, and completed in a cost-effective manner.
  • Coordinate with other managers, supervisors, work coordination staff, and others for optimal functioning of assigned staff.
  • Review and monitor work performed and recommend improvements on equipment techniques and procedures.
  • Recommend upgrades to plant equipment to ensure continued optimal operation.
  • Assist in the planning of major maintenance projects and the rehabilitation of machinery.
  • Provide diagnostic analysis, advanced troubleshooting, and recommendations for resolving machinery failures.
  • Schedule and work overtime as required.
  • Work towards optimizing the effectiveness of the Section's CMMS.
  • Establish and update data such as machinery specifications, maintenance intervals, and spare parts requirements.
  • Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of reported data.
  • Advises on the procurement and administration of equipment maintenance contracts.
  • Assist in the identification of contract needs and the development of contract specifications.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with outside contractors and vendors.
  • Ensure the building drawings and records are kept up to date.
  • Provide information to assist in the development and monitoring of Current Expense Budget (CEB) and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budgets.
  • Promote the MWRA Safety Policy and Program ensuring all staff is properly trained on safety procedures as directed by the Authority's Department of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Coordinate the Section's maintenance activities with operations staff, work coordination staff, engineers, outside utilities, contractors, vendors, and other agencies.
  • Participate in maintenance optimization and asset management improvement programs.
  • Perform administrative duties such as those related to attendance, hiring, training, budget preparation, and purchasing for the equipment maintenance group.
  • Review performance of assigned staff according to MWRA procedures as established by the Human Resources Department.
Secondary Duties:
  • Assist in maintaining harmonious labor management relations through proper application of collective bargaining agreement provisions and established personnel policies.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Requirements:
  • An Associate's degree in maintenance management or any related field.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of large wastewater, water treatment, or manufacturing facilities with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of the methods, techniques, operations, systems, equipment, principles, and practices of water treatment, wastewater treatment, or hydropower generation.
  • Computer literacy in spreadsheets, database management, and computerized work order systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize other trades engaged in equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and applications in water treatment and hydropower operations.
Special Requirements:
  • A valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License.
  • Grade II Distribution License (OIT) and Grade I (Operator in Training) Treatment Operator of Drinking Water Supply Facilities License (OIT), or the ability to obtain these licenses within 1 year from appointment.
  • Ability to be on-call seven (7) days a week, twenty-four (24) hours a day.
  • A Master Electrician License, Master Plumber License, or an Unrestricted Construction Supervisors License is preferred.
Tools and Equipment Used:
  • Power and hand tools, mobile radio, telephone, and personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.
