We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems Technician to join our team at Emerald Coast Utilities Authority. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of water services to our customers.

About the Role:

This is an entry-level position that involves working under immediate supervision to learn the skills required for semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. You will participate in a formal training and career progression program, as well as receive on-the-job training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior technicians with the operation and maintenance of ECUA's Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems.
  • Help install water services, including tapping the water main, installing service tubing, and connecting tubing to the meter box.
  • Assist with repairs to water mains, water services, and water meters.
  • Participate in emergency shutdowns of the water system.
  • Maintain water valves, fire hydrants, and water meters.
  • Turn customer water services on and off.
  • Install, replace, and troubleshoot residential (AMR) water meters using a computer.
  • Record meter readings for billing purposes.
  • Assist with sewer lateral installations from the main to the property line for residential customers.
  • Help repair and maintain gravity sewer mains, sewer force mains, customer service laterals, force main valves, and air release valves.
  • Participate in utility locates using ground-penetrating radar and other equipment.
  • Operate and maintain backhoes, trenchers, service trucks, pumps, well-point systems, and other equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Possession of a current valid driver license.
  • Possession of a State of Florida Level III Water Distribution License within 24 months from date of hire.
  • Must obtain a Class A CDL with tanker within 24 months from date of hire.
  • Must obtain certification in Management of Traffic (MOT) within 24 months from date of hire.
