Correctional Nursing Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in a supportive work environment at the Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, FL.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide exceptional care to inmates, working closely with physicians to ensure accurate and complete documentation of treatment. This rewarding field offers a variety of nursing skills, and we are looking for a passionate nurse to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend sick call with physicians to see inmates, prepare examining rooms, and equipment.
  • Call physicians for medication and treatment orders, and other emergencies.
  • Operate pill call, administer medication, and accurately document treatment.
  • Examine and assess inmates with illnesses or injuries, confer with physicians, and document in medical records.
  • Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for inmate care and facility operations.
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records, observing applicable HIPAA rules.
  • Accurately and promptly chart medical care, reviewing medical files to determine all provided services are documented.
  • Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
  • Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
  • Observe and record inmate behavior, assess, and triage with appropriate documentation.
  • Inspect medical units for items that could be used as contraband by inmates, securely storing or safely disposing of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform work on an on-call basis, as required.
  • Facilitate NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved, appropriate medical services.
  • Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures, taking appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
  • Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries with accuracy, gathering information and evidence, interviewing, and obtaining statements, exercising independent judgment by determining when probable cause exists to recommend disciplinary action.
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.

Requirements:

A degree in nursing, a current, valid nursing license for the state of Florida, and current CPR certification are required. The successful candidate must work within the Florida state board of nursing scope of practice and possess a valid driver's license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
