Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a Senior State Tax Specialist to contribute to the Navistar Tax Department.

The Senior State Tax Specialist will play a crucial role in collaborating with the State Tax Manager within a multi-entity manufacturing framework. This position is essential for ensuring that state tax accounting, compliance, audits, and planning related to the Company’s domestic operations are conducted in alignment with the highest ethical standards of accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of quarterly calculations for US state income tax provisions and monthly forecasts of state tax rates and franchise taxes.
  • Timely and accurate filing of state income and franchise tax returns through a partnership with a leading accounting firm.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations, focusing on US state income and franchise tax, while researching and documenting their impacts on Navistar.
  • Provide assistance during state audits as required.
  • Identify and implement enhancements to policies and procedures.
  • Utilize various software programs, including tax accounting and compliance tools, as well as electronic research methods.
  • May offer guidance and informal coaching to colleagues and other professionals.
  • Engage in special tax projects and initiatives, including opportunities for cross-functional collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience in accounting, finance, or tax.

OR

  • Master's degree.
  • At least 1 year of experience in accounting, finance, or tax.

OR

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or tax.

Additional Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.

Desired Skills:

  • Prior experience in a CPA firm or a multinational corporation.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of tax experience, particularly with state income and franchise tax.
  • Ability to network with senior personnel in the field of expertise.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for problem-solving.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge and experience in the area of specialization.
  • Fully proficient in applying established standards and resolving complex issues innovatively.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience with tax accounting software is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with automation tools, such as Alteryx, is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates effective managerial and team development capabilities.
