Overview:

The proficient Registered Nurse, operating within a similar clinical environment, works autonomously while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of all pertinent aspects of patient care. This role encompasses both routine and intricate healthcare responsibilities, with a focus on long-term objectives and strategic planning. The nurse continues to enhance their capability to navigate and manage the complexities of clinical nursing. Responsibilities include appropriate task delegation and assignments to other healthcare professionals to effectively manage patient care situations.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels is a comprehensive healthcare facility featuring 94 private beds, strategically located to cater to the growing population of New Braunfels. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and services, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical departments, rehabilitation services, a modernized birthing center with 24/7 neonatal support, emergency services, a wound care/hyperbaric center, advanced mammography, and a full spectrum of cardiac care, from diagnostics to surgical interventions.

Key Responsibilities:


• Upholds the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• In alignment with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, delivers nursing care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.

• Addresses the increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families, consistent with their level of practice.

• Administers medications and treatments according to established protocols; monitors for side effects and the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.

• Maintains thorough documentation of patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.

• Evaluates learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identifies issues and available resources.

• Utilizes critical thinking to assess the physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.

• Communicates findings effectively to the healthcare team.

• Develops and implements individualized care plans based on evidence-based practices.

• Monitors and documents patient progress and treatment goals.

• Conducts timely reassessments and documentation.

• Must perform unit-specific competencies based on the designated patient population's needs.

Operational Responsibilities:

• Plans, directs, and evaluates nursing care within a specific unit during assigned shifts.

• Demonstrates effective stewardship in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

• Assesses staffing needs and actively participates in resource allocation.

• Educates and trains staff on operational protocols, ethics, and regulations.

Safety and Quality Assurance:

• Implements patient safety practices to foster a secure environment, leading to positive patient outcomes.

• Engages in nursing research and quality improvement initiatives.

• Provides evidence-based nursing care and effectively communicates patient information across care settings.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Preferred experience in a Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal Setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the relevant nursing specialty is preferred.

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. Newly hired experienced RNs must complete New Nurses Orientation within the first month of employment. New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements will be validated through successful completion of designated competency validations. Annual competency verification is mandatory.

Licenses/Certifications:

Current RN License in the state of employment or compact. BLS certification is required. Current STABLE certification is required at the time of hire or prior to the end of orientation for experienced nurses; within 90 days for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty. Current NRP certification is required at the time of hire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty.
