The Food Service Worker plays a vital role in overseeing food operations within a correctional facility, ensuring that meals and food items are prepared according to established production plans.
In this capacity, you will be responsible for training personnel in effective work methods, as well as assigning and coordinating tasks to enhance operational efficiency.
This position also entails maintaining the cleanliness of the facility and ensuring personal safety by adhering to all relevant standards and regulations.
Essential duties and responsibilities may vary by location based on client needs and operational requirements.Key Responsibilities
- Maintain adherence to preparation and production standards by reviewing and approving production and temperature logs.
- Supervise inmates during food preparation and tray assembly processes.
- Ensure that meal service is timely and efficient, complying with all operational guidelines.
- Participate in the preparation and serving of meals.
- Print and distribute recipes as needed.
- Guide inmates in utilizing recipes and instruct on proper cooking techniques.
- Ensure that portion sizes and any special dietary needs are accurately met.
- Collect and verify daily population counts and discuss with staff.
- Follow security protocols, ensuring that storage areas are secured at all times.
- Ensure that all kitchen tools and equipment are returned to their designated secure locations and that all keys are accounted for.
- Develop work procedures, prepare work schedules, and sanitation plans while ensuring compliance from cooks, inmates, and/or food service workers.
- Assist in inventory management, receiving, and storing food items, and requisition orders as necessary.
- Engage in the preparation, storage, and assembly of meals and food items.
- Adhere to company standards for food handling and storage, following HACCP policies and procedures.

- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Preferred minimum of one (1) year of experience in food preparation or a related field.
- Previous supervisory experience is advantageous.
- Experience working with inmates is a plus.
- Ability to motivate and oversee inmates and/or team members to achieve quality and quantity in food production within a correctional environment.
- Must be able to obtain food safety certification.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong judgment and tact are essential.
- Must adhere to basic safety protocols and policies.
- Must qualify for and maintain security clearance within the correctional facility.
This role may involve physical demands, including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking and standing.
