Job Summary

The Memphis Shelby County Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Safety and Security Operations to lead the development and implementation of comprehensive security and safety programs across the district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Security Plans: Coordinate the development and implementation of security plans for special events, including training and assistance to site-based administrators.
  • Lead the Safe Schools Committee: Serve as the leader of the District's Safe Schools Committee to develop and revise the District's Safe School Plan, implementing ongoing safety and training programs.
  • Collaborate with Law Enforcement: Liaise with local law enforcement agencies to monitor the daily operation of the School Resource Officer (SRO) program and other law enforcement issues on school campuses.
  • Provide Training and Support: Provide training and assistance to site-based administrators in matters of safety and security, directing/coordination the periodic assessment/audit of school facilities and grounds to determine safety and security issues.
  • Develop and Maintain Crisis Response Plans: Participate in the development and maintenance of a District-level Crisis Response Plan, assisting/advising in the development of crisis management/emergency response plans as part of each school's safety plan.
  • Provide Reports and Analysis: Provide requested reports to the Superintendent on matters pertaining to school safety, effectively analyzing and allocating appropriate utilization of staff, inventory, equipment, and other resources required for successful completion of job duties.
Requirements
  • Emergency Management and Preparedness: Understand emergency management and preparedness principles and practices.
  • Leadership and Management: Possess experience in change management, organizational structure, performance management, and/or administrative responsibilities.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Experience in developing, revising, and implementing standard policies and procedures.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess the ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and law enforcement officials.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
