Position Overview

We are currently seeking a dedicated staff engineer to assist in the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects. This role is designed for individuals with relevant degrees who may have limited field experience.

Key Responsibilities

Field Activities:
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and procedures.
  • Oversee the drilling of exploratory borings and wells.
  • Manage the installation of monitoring wells.
  • Collect or supervise the collection of soil and groundwater samples.
Research-Based Activities:
  • Lead inspections and testing of concrete and rebar.
  • Prepare samples of unapproved materials for laboratory analysis.
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests to ascertain various design parameters.
  • Classify soils according to established standards.
  • Compile geologic reports and maps, interpret data, and recommend subsequent actions.
  • Determine groundwater flow direction.
  • Prepare interim and final project reports.
  • Engage in decision-making regarding research priorities.
  • May involve designing components of projects.
Supervisory Activities:
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff and interns.
  • Direct tasks for junior staff and interns as necessary.
Business Development:
  • Identify potential new projects and promote the company’s services consistently.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to review and comprehend plans, specifications, and reports, including site, grading, utility, and structural drawings.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field with 0 to 3 years of experience in site civil or geotechnical engineering.
  • Previous internship or construction experience is preferred.
  • For Geotechnical/Site Civil Role: Experience with inspection of compacted fills, footings, ground improvement, deep foundations, retaining walls, utilities, asphalt, and concrete.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred or the ability to obtain registration within six months.
  • Additional certifications such as ACI/NICET/NJ DCA Special Inspector and Nuclear Densometer are advantageous.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for job site access.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel, and Adobe.
  • Ability to operate tools such as a lump hammer, shovel, hand auger, and Nuclear Density Gauge.
Physical Demands:

The role requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. The candidate must be able to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds regularly. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment noise level is typically moderate to high.

Work Environment:

Approximately 25% to 100% of the work will be conducted outdoors. The candidate must be able to navigate uneven terrain in various weather conditions. Appropriate outdoor work attire, including work boots and safety gear, is essential.
