Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will be tasked with the creation, execution, and supervision of EHS initiatives and programs within our organization.

This position guarantees adherence to all applicable regulations and standards while fostering a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship.

The EHS Manager will collaborate with multiple departments to improve EHS performance and promote ongoing enhancement.

Your primary responsibilities include:
  • Formulating, executing, and sustaining thorough EHS programs, policies, and procedures that comply with regulatory mandates and industry standards. Leading inquiries into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and establish corrective and preventive measures.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations concerning hazardous materials, waste management (chemical and biological), wastewater, and DOT standards (Local, State, and Federal). Engaging with regulatory bodies and authorities as necessary. Conducting routine risk assessments, hazard evaluations, and safety inspections to pinpoint potential EHS concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Creating and maintaining emergency response strategies and coordinating drills to ensure readiness for potential crises. Training and collaborating on EHS programs for staff, contractors, and visitors to enhance awareness and compliance with EHS protocols. Providing guidance and support to ensure adherence to safe work permitting processes (e.g., hot-work, lock-out tag-out, hazardous materials), including drafting and issuing permits and auditing all related documentation.
  • Managing environmental initiatives, including waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainability efforts. Leading site EHS audits and environmental programs to ensure compliance and promote continuous improvement. Acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and other stakeholders. Representing the organization in EHS matters and fostering positive relationships.
  • Documenting and analyzing injury and safety-related data to derive performance metrics for trend analysis and reporting to senior management. Proposing strategies to encourage positive trends while addressing negative ones.
  • Supporting and enhancing process maintenance and continuous improvement for all safety initiatives, which encompass hands-on assistance, program implementation, training, and organizing regular meetings and inspections.

You should possess:
  • A degree in a Scientific or Engineering discipline; a specialization in Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP) are advantageous.
  • Over 5 years of experience in EHS roles making decisions impacting employee health & safety or facility compliance, along with experience in managing laboratory operations. Practical knowledge in health, safety, and environmental areas, including lockout-tagout-tryout, working at heights, lifting and hoisting, safety program inspections and audits, root cause analysis, health risk assessments, and hazard communication.
  • Comprehensive understanding of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices. Demonstrated knowledge of applicable state and federal EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations, along with experience in compliance auditing.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey safety, health, and environmental processes and requirements, including familiarity with computer-based training systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to support and facilitate 24/7 emergency responses related to facility operations and safety/security incidents.
  • Basic knowledge of PSM systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
