Civil Engineer Project Manager

This is an entry-level position for project management at Cranston. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a design team in all aspects of project management, including pursuing new project opportunities, proposal preparation, identifying project staffing needs, developing and maintaining project production workload projections, overseeing the financial performance of the project, developing and maintaining contacts with current and prospective clients, and recommending and reviewing project budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify new markets and new clients to bring in new projects, maintaining good, continuous, positive, and helpful contact with existing clients.
- Prepare proposals and/or qualification statements to include pre-implementation estimates and prepare and present winning presentations.
- Responsible for execution of project schedules, scope, and budgets.
- Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets, preparing Project Planning Worksheet, and being accountable for on-time and on-budget project performance.
- Determine project team makeup and assign internal and external workloads.
- Conduct project kick-off meetings to communicate and obtain agreement on the project schedule.
- Monitor and follow up on invoicing and payments.
- Accountable for the overall design phase, including conducting design review meetings, ensuring progress drawings are met, providing progress reports to Principal-in-Charge, and involving the client in design development.
- Manage our participation in the bidding phase according to individual project requirements, coordinating Requests for Information and contractor questions.
- Manage the construction phase according to contract requirements.
- Respond promptly to requests for information or problems and maintain good communication.
- Accept professional responsibility for projects completed under his/her direct responsibility.
- Assure quality control procedures are implemented and maintained for each of the technical areas required to complete the job.
- Provide guidance and training of technical support personnel.
- Have sole responsibility to coordinate other groups for project support.
- Assure that project correspondence and design documentation is kept orderly and complete at all times.
- Assure the project is properly closed out in accordance with the established procedures.
- Make recommendations to senior management on personnel needs, advertisement, and hiring of staff as required.
- Provide input to the appropriate supervisor for employee evaluations.
- Ensure that personnel under his/her direction observe and comply with personnel policies and procedures.
- Issue warnings or recommend disciplinary action to senior management as required.
- Routinely communicate with Principals, Engineers, Survey managers, CADD operators, Secretaries, Field inspectors, Clients, Government Agencies, Sub-Contract Firms, and Contractors.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
- Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
- 6+ years of engineering design consulting experience.
- Good supervisory skills, strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and excellent project management knowledge and/or experience.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and technical software.
- Valid Driver's License.
- BS in Civil Engineering or technical equivalent.
- Professional Engineering License.
