Job Title: Substance Abuse Counselor

The Doe Fund is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will provide supportive case management services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS, focusing on their recovery and well-being.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide regular case management services to residents, including assessments, service planning, and goal achievement.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident records, adhering to agency and funding standards.
  • Conduct and review assessments to identify residents' needs and develop individualized service plans.
  • Link residents to healthcare providers, substance abuse treatment programs, and other community services.
  • Provide counseling and crisis intervention as needed, promoting residents' physical and emotional security and well-being.
  • Assist residents in securing and maintaining benefits, including housing and healthcare services.
  • Maintain a liaison with community services, including hospitals, substance abuse treatment programs, and mental health programs.
  • Facilitate groups and activities promoting health, independent living skills, and recovery-oriented services.
  • Monitor and assist residents with rent payments, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing.
  • Compile resources on substance abuse, educating residents and staff on effective approaches to managing addiction.
  • Oversee recovery readiness, relapse prevention, and recovery-oriented services, promoting a supportive environment for residents.
  • Organize sober recreational activities, fostering a sense of community and social connection among residents.
  • Attend ongoing trainings to enhance services provided to residents, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Assist with completion of HASA's weekly and monthly reports, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or relevant field.
  • Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) certification or a License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW) is strongly preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working with people who are homeless, living with HIV/AIDS, have substance abuse histories, or suffer from mental illness.
  • At least 3 years of experience in substance abuse counseling, with a strong understanding of benefits in the New York City Metro area, HIV/AIDS, psychiatric diagnoses, substance abuse, and mental health issues.
  • Solid computer skills, including internet, Microsoft Office, and charting database.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Spanish speaking a plus, but not necessary.
