Job Title: Senior Library Outreach Associate
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Hourly Rate: $22/hr.
Reports To: Literacy Services Coordinator
Workplace: On-site
The Senior Library Outreach Associate is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of the Library Connect initiative, which provides mobile library and literacy services across Riverside County. This role, under the guidance of the Literacy Services Coordinator, emphasizes community involvement, a dedication to inclusivity, and the establishment of program standards aimed at improving service quality and accessibility.
Qualifications
- Possession of relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with the required education, training, and/or work experience.
- A Bachelor's Degree in a pertinent field or two years of equivalent experience in related responsibilities.
- A valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Must maintain insurability with no significant California traffic violations.
- Demonstrated capability to lead and manage a team effectively.
- Proven ability to adapt and develop skills in a dynamic work environment while supporting colleagues through organizational changes.
- Familiarity with best practices in leadership and supervision is preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management abilities.
- Successful completion of a background check.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and assess Library Connect programs and services to align with the objectives of the Riverside County Library System and the needs of the community.
- Establish standards, policies, and procedures for the Library Connect program to enhance safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
- Train and oversee Library Connect personnel, assign and evaluate tasks, assess service effectiveness, and inspire team performance.
- Co-manage the development and upkeep of collections for Library Connect vehicles, monitoring program expenditures.
- Maintain a route schedule that accommodates diverse community locations, tailoring services to meet the specific needs of each audience.
- Plan routes and staffing schedules while considering community events, seasonal variations, and emerging service requirements.
- Collaborate with the RCLS Marketing team to promote the Library Connect schedule and outreach services, updating relevant content on the library's digital platforms.
- Ensure the Library Connect fleet is properly maintained and coordinate vehicle service needs.
- Proactively suggest enhancements to mobile library and outreach services.
- Lead and facilitate various literacy initiatives, including adult literacy, family literacy, digital literacy, and ESL, ensuring successful program outcomes.
- Oversee data collection and input monthly statistics into relevant tracking systems.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing program results and impacts for stakeholders and management.
- Assist with the logistics of Library Connect routes and stops, including setup and breakdown procedures.
- Engage with patrons, including seniors and young children, with sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
- Build community partnerships and identify sites for promoting and recruiting new library patrons and literacy learners, collaborating closely with local educational institutions and other library departments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the objectives and mission of the Riverside County Library and Literacy Services.
Job Requirements
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of staff, patrons, supervisors, and others.
- Willingness to work weekends and some evenings.
- Proficiency in utilizing various technologies to complete work tasks.
- Ability to adhere to library policies and procedures.
- Adaptability to work accurately in a changing and varied environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to frequently remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- This position requires mobility to collect materials and access files/supplies.
- Constantly operates a computer and other equipment such as printers and copiers.
- Occasionally ascends/descends a step stool or stairs to retrieve or store supplies.
- This position frequently communicates with patrons and other staff to provide information. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Frequently pushes and pulls book carts weighing up to 75 lbs. and transports materials.
