Job Summary:

The Welder Specialist will be responsible for installing, modifying, and repairing various components, including pipe, boilers, towers, exchangers, furnaces, drums, and other equipment. This role requires the ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and specifications to produce high-quality work with reasonable efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate welding equipment, including arc, gas-shielded arc, and gas welding equipment.
  • Work with pipe, plate, and structural steel to produce quality welds.
  • Perform simple piping installations and repairs.
  • Assist other mechanics and technicians as needed.
  • Meet qualification standards, including certification requirements.

Qualification Standards:

The Welder Specialist must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others in the workplace. This means that the individual must not pose a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions:

The Welder Specialist will work in a high-noise environment and may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. They will also be required to work in all weather conditions and may be exposed to emergency situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive tasks involving hands, arms, and legs.
  • Use hand and power tools of all types.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel, wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.

Mental Requirements:

  • Communicate effectively with management and supervision.
  • Perform sedentary to heavy work.
  • Work at various tempos and concentrate amid distractions.
  • Make decisions and be detail-oriented.

Requirements:

The Welder Specialist must have at least one year of experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry and a general understanding of the craft work being performed. They must also have knowledge of safety rules and regulations and be able to learn client and company policy.
