Medical Assistant

At the University of Maryland Medical System, we are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in Harford County. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinicians in delivering high-quality services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Escort patients to examination rooms, take and record accurate medical histories and vital signs, and promptly report any changes or abnormalities to the clinician.
- Assist clinicians with examinations and procedures as requested, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients.
- Clean and maintain examination rooms, equipment, and supplies, adhering to strict infection control and safety protocols.
- Triage phone calls, document patient information, and translate messages to physicians for response, ensuring timely communication.
- Call pharmacies to refill prescriptions under the direction of a physician or practitioner, maintaining accurate records.
- Assist patients with mobility issues, using proper body mechanics to ensure their safety and comfort.
- Perform laboratory procedures with competence and adherence to quality control protocols, providing clear instructions to patients.
- Explain procedures to patients, answer questions, and refer them to appropriate team members, promoting patient understanding and satisfaction.
- Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
- Inspect medication samples to ensure they are not expired, maintaining accurate records.
- Report complaints, problems, and resolutions to the Practice Administrator, promoting open communication and resolution.
- Maintain equipment logs for calibration and quality control, ensuring optimal performance.
- Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician, adapting to changing needs and priorities.
Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred.
- One year of previous related experience or graduation from an accredited program within the last 12 months is required.
- BLS certification is also required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Good customer service skills, with the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Heavy lifting and transporting stretcher and wheelchair patients may be required.
- Working knowledge of sterile techniques, special procedures, and infection control protocols.
- Ability to document and communicate pertinent information, establish effective working relationships with patients and staff.
