Position Overview:

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Correctional Facility

Shift: Night Shift

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)

Contract Duration: 8 weeks

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning and delivering comprehensive nursing care, which includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers, administering medications, and assisting in patient examinations and treatments.
  • Utilizes nursing and supervisory techniques essential for the care and treatment of inmates.
  • Conducts all clinical procedures within the limits of their education and licensure, applying appropriate nursing skills in the correctional environment.
  • Participates in sick calls alongside physicians to assess inmates, preparing necessary documentation and examination areas.
  • Manages medication distribution, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with Licensed Independent Providers regarding medication and treatment orders, as well as emergency situations.
  • Evaluates and assesses new inmates with health issues, referring them to emergency services when necessary.
  • Implements emergency procedures as required and informs Licensed Independent Providers for further treatment orders.
  • Coordinates with contract medical personnel to ensure the provision of necessary services.

Essential Skills:

  • Monitors inmate hospitalizations for potential early releases when appropriate.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to nursing staff, ensuring quality care delivery.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with facility staff, nursing teams, and external healthcare providers.
  • Applies established policies and procedures while exercising sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Regularly assesses the provision of medical services to prevent misuse or duplication.
  • Ensures the confidentiality and security of all medical records.
  • Assists in reviewing medical files to ensure accurate documentation of services provided.
  • Monitors for potential catastrophic illnesses among the inmate population.
  • Audits pharmacy usage for compliance with formulary requirements.
  • Adheres to pharmacy laws, particularly those related to controlled substances, while observing inmate behavior.
  • Inspects medical units for potential contraband and manages medical supplies accordingly.
  • Delivers health education and counseling to inmates as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining various records and reports, ensuring timely processing and accurate documentation.

Qualifications:

Current BLS certification from AHA

Valid RN License
