Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Surgical Technician assists the surgical team in the operating room and related areas. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares for scheduled operative procedures, ensuring that necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and ready for use.
  • Assists the surgical team in maintaining a clean and safe operating room environment, including cleaning rooms and sterilizing equipment.
  • Transports patients to and from the operating room, verifying patient identity and assisting with lifting and positioning of patients for surgical procedures.
  • May assist as a second circulator under the direction of a registered nurse, preparing materials for department in-service education programs and assisting in the trial and evaluation of new surgical products.
  • Participates in the development of new policies and procedures for the department and provides input to managers as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists is highly desirable.
  • One to two years of experience as a surgical technician is preferred.
