Job Overview
As a Youth Services Library Assistant at the City of Portsmouth, NH, you will play a vital role in providing excellent customer service to our community. This part-time position requires 20 hours of work per week, with a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend rotations.

The purpose of this role is to assist in the delivery of library services to children and teens. Key responsibilities include planning and executing storytimes, presenting programs, and assisting patrons with finding reading materials and technology resources. You will also be involved in collection maintenance, public relations, and creating a welcoming environment for our community.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and execute engaging storytimes for babies, toddlers, preschool-aged children, and families.
  2. Develop and deliver connected learning programs for youth, teens, and caregivers.
  3. Participate in outreach activities to reach underserved populations.
  4. Utilize the library's integrated library system software to answer patron queries and update records.
  5. Assist patrons in finding reading materials and make recommendations from within the collection.
  6. Assist patrons with using technology tools, including public computers, self-check stations, printers, and iPads.
  7. Maintain collections and displays, ensuring they are neat, clean, and well-organized.
  8. Keep accurate usage statistics on a daily basis.
  9. Respond to phone calls and patron inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Work Environment
The work environment is dynamic, with varying temperatures. The successful candidate must be able to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize tasks effectively.

Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Customer service experience is essential, and prior library experience is preferred.
