Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Component Engineer to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). As a Component Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing various weapon components, as well as supporting the resolution of producibility and manufacturability issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop weapon components, including mechanical components, systems, and test prototypes
  • Support the resolution of producibility and manufacturability issues
  • Manage and update Product Realization Team (PRT) documentation, including project plans, qualification plans, and design requirement documents
  • Derive engineering requirements and develop conceptual designs
  • Perform supporting assessments of mechanical components, systems, and test prototypes
  • Oversee the detail design process, component fabrication, and unit assembly
  • Contribute to and/or prepare supporting safety and engineering documentation
  • Participate in engineering design reviews, test operations, and analysis of results
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of and experience with requirements development and engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of engineering testing process and ability to conduct data analyses
  • Working knowledge of and/or experience with design principles, material properties, and manufacturing methods
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills to present and explain technical information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Experience with product development processes, including requirements management, design prototyping, product testing, business planning, pilot production, and manufacturing
  • Ability to interpret specifications and mechanical drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of design applications employing high explosive materials
  • Working knowledge of quality engineering and/or quality assurance and control
