West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on providing quality housing solutions for seniors and individuals with special needs. Established in 1976, we have successfully developed numerous residential properties in Manhattan and the Bronx, catering to a diverse community.
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Income Certification Specialist to manage a portfolio of properties comprising 320 units in the Bronx. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in handling HUD and LIHTC certifications, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills and a keen eye for detail. This role requires a self-starter who can work independently while also thriving in a collaborative team environment. Excellent customer service, along with strong verbal and written communication skills, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer HUD/NYCHA Project Based Section 8, LIHTC, and HOME certifications, including initial, interim, and annual processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain and update waiting lists, ensuring a current pool of qualified applicants to fill vacancies promptly.
- Conduct interviews with prospective tenants and current residents to facilitate the certification process.
- Prepare for and respond to audits and reviews related to tenant files, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Organize and maintain resident files to ensure they are always audit-ready.
- Generate necessary reporting documents for investors as required.
- Engage in additional tasks and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A college degree is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in affordable housing compliance, specifically with HUD Project Based Section 8, LIHTC, and HOME programs.
- Familiarity with HUD regulations and reporting requirements is essential.
- Certification as an Occupancy Specialist (COS) or Assisted Housing Manager (AHM) is required.
- Must obtain NY State Notary Public certification within the first three months of employment.
- Proficiency in property management software, particularly OneSite and/or Yardi, is preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
Essential Skills:
- Strong administrative capabilities, including office management and report preparation.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with various stakeholders.
- Proficient in computer applications such as Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and exceptional customer service.
