Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Crystal Clinic is responsible for assisting Physicians and/or Advanced Practice Providers in the clinic setting. Key duties include rooming patients, taking medical histories, completing thorough documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), preparation and administration of injections, patient phone calls, assisting with procedures, and general maintenance of equipment, supplies, and exam rooms.
Essential Job Functions
LPN greets patients, completes the check-in process, and answers patients' general questions. Answers telephone calls and schedules office and follow-up appointments. Obtains and processes referrals. Prepares charts for new patients and pulls charts for upcoming established patient visits. Ensures that proper patient forms are complete, current, and entered into the computer. Responsible for locating medical charts as needed, as well as chart filing and purging. LPN checks charts for progress notes and stat orders, prepares charge tickets, and acts on any stat orders. Runs charge tickets and patient-specific forms. Processes medical records requests. Tracks and documents 'no-show' patients. Monitors the patient waiting area, makes coffee, and straightens up the area if needed. LPN collects co-pays/POA, etc., and balances the cash drawer. Gathers information for outside testing if required. Obtains authorizations from insurance companies for testing and injections. Provides backup coverage and assists in the daily office routine when needed in other areas. Monitors and maintains front office equipment; orders office supplies, orthopaedic/medical equipment, and supplies. LPN cleans, sterilizes, and stocks/maintains examination rooms and equipment. Maintains the cleanliness of all clinical areas and exam rooms; restocks and orders supplies within budgetary constraints; checks and cleans equipment, makes minor adjustments, and reports the need for repair or maintenance to the manager. LPN assists physicians and/or physician's assistants with special procedures, gathers necessary equipment and instruments, positions the patient, and responds to instructions given by the physician or physician's assistant. Prepares X-ray orders per physician protocol and directs or transports the patient to Radiology. LPN prepares laboratory requisitions, arranges for the transport of specimens to the laboratory as appropriate. Removal of sutures, staples, dressing, and wraps; application and removal of casts and splints. Application and patient education on Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Preparation and drawing up of injections. Phones in prescriptions and documents in the patient record per physician order. Gathers necessary data and instructional materials for discharged patients, ensures that the patient is aware of any necessary follow-up appointment times and locations. Makes sure patients' X-ray films are transported to the follow-up location in a timely manner so they are there for the patient's follow-up visit. Patient education on the physician's plan of care (hand-outs/return demonstration, etc.). Ensures charge tickets are marked appropriately for injections and/or equipment and supplies are given to the patient. LPN attends in-services and departmental meetings. All other duties not specifically assigned.
