Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at UP Health System - Bell. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our respiratory care department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine patients with breathing-related conditions and conduct diagnostic testing.
  • Consult with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans for patients.
  • Perform physiotherapy and other treatments, and teach patients to use medications.
  • Deliver and assess response to ordered therapy per plan of care.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Respond to codes and calls for emergent assistance, assessing patient condition and delivering appropriate treatment.
  • Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Maintain storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Perform all therapeutic and diagnostic modalities provided by the department according to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform patient assessment, evaluating the appropriateness of the therapy ordered and making suggestions as to how the patient might be best served.
  • Develop and implement plans of care for patients receiving respiratory therapy services and participate in patient care conferences regarding such plans of care with other healthcare providers.
  • Develop and implement patient education programs related to respiratory care and treatment of respiratory diseases, and act as a resource for other staff members with regard to performance of procedures within their realm of expertise.
  • Participate in departmental quality monitoring and improvement activities and assist other staff members to assure that quality patient care is provided.
  • Perform all procedures thoroughly and accurately.
  • Maintain work areas in a well-organized and neat manner.
  • Demonstrate awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for personal and professional growth.
  • Demonstrate self-directed learning, participate in continuing education by attendance at scheduled meetings and in-services, and complete all annual learning requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Complete annual educational requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Respiratory Care
  • Required Skills:
    • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within orientation period
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)
  • Licenses:
    • Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan

Job Type: Full-time

Work Schedule: 2nd shift, 7-10 hr/shift, rotate weekends
