General Overview:

A Construction Field Specialist operates under the guidance of the Project Engineer, responsible for monitoring quantities and expenses, contributing to work plan creation, facilitating coordination between engineering and construction efforts, and aiding in contract oversight.

To excel in this role, an individual must competently fulfill each Key Responsibility. The qualifications outlined below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate labor and equipment cost reports to oversee production expenses, manage billing, budgets, and completion costs.
  • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly quantity reports to track production, generate management reports, and reconcile owner quantities.
  • Initiate purchase orders, shop drawings, submittals, and material deliveries.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager in planning tasks, scheduling deliveries, interpreting plans and specifications, and providing any necessary assistance to ensure a profitably completed project.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs and calculations from project plans required by management to advance the work.
  • Provide measurements, drawings, and logs essential for project documentation.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: This position is considered entry-level within the engineering field. A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a Business Degree (or equivalent experience) is required.

Basic engineering knowledge in Civil Engineering is essential. Proficiency in PC skills, including familiarity with software such as Excel, Primavera, and SAP, is required. Understanding of construction industry practices is necessary. Effective communication with job site supervisors and colleagues is a must.


Physical Requirements:

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Construction Field Specialist to successfully perform essential functions:

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a standard work shift of at least eight hours.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to frequently lift at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental focus is necessary to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Work may be performed at heights up to 60 feet, necessitating climbing ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.
  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes.
  • Must be able to adapt to a flexible schedule based on project needs.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing essential functions:

  • Work is conducted outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Regular exposure to heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Environment may expose employees to high noise levels and a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites.
