Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Sonographer to join our team at NYU Langone Health in Bellevue. As a Diagnostic Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic sonographic examinations using ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to make quality images and perform studies in required modalities.
  • Provide training and guidance to Ultrasound Technology students.
  • Utilize advanced expertise and problem-solving skills to assist staff in the performance of difficult cases and troubleshooting technical problems.
  • Solve problems that arise during patient examinations using both technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Independently implement patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards.
  • Observe and instruct students, fellows, residents, and lower-level techs.
  • Administer ultrasound procedures by operating computerized equipment and recording devices.
  • Alert the appropriate medical staff of abnormalities that require immediate attention.
  • Compare present echocardiograms to previous studies to monitor.
  • Use advanced judgment when determining if the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnoses or if additional imaging procedures are needed.
  • Usage of highly technical equipment to produce scans and conduct procedures.
  • Write reports based upon completion of the scan.
  • Document the scans according to the departmental procedures.
  • Enter, maintain, and record all pertinent patient information.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiology.
  • Select appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Access patient information; schedule exams, appointment times, type of exam, patient reports, etc.
  • Follow departmental HIS/RIS system procedures and protocol to ensure orders are verified and processed correctly.
  • Effectively assess patients' information and status, and follow appropriate procedure(s) accordingly.
  • Use standard procedures to identify the correct patient.
  • Review patients' requisition and understand the type of exam required by each requisition and confer with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary.
  • Follow accepted radiologic procedures and use medical information to determine the type of protocol required for radiographic examination.
  • Consult policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
  • Follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisition.
  • Recognize the need for and follow isolation precautions.
  • Independently implement patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards.
  • Explain the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly.
  • Solve problems that arise during patient examinations using both technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Alter examination to maximize information in response to patients' condition.
  • Confer with other technologists concerning previous approaches utilized.
  • Direct and monitor student clinical training.
  • Observe the student during clinical training, guide them to perform good ultrasound procedures.
  • Convey information to students to increase their level of understanding.
  • Evaluate the students' progress in clinical areas.
  • Monitor the work performed by students under their supervision.
Requirements:
  • Certificate from an approved ultrasound/vascular technology education program.
  • Registered as American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or eligible.
  • Preferred Licenses: Nuchal Translucency Cert.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registered as American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, OBGYN specialty.
