In this role, you will spearhead the design and development of bespoke opto-mechanical systems for cutting-edge metal 3D printing technologies.
Opto-mechanical systems are integral to our technology, and your contributions will enhance capabilities in print speed, quality, precision, and throughput.
You will take full ownership of designing custom hardware and opto-mechanical-electrical devices, as well as implementing advanced laser and camera solutions to facilitate sophisticated closed-loop control.
The ideal candidate will act as the technical lead for complex systems, collaborating across various engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and construct intricate opto-mechanical systems
- Integrate high-power lasers and high-speed camera technologies
- Generate detailed drawings adhering to opto-mechanical GD&T standards
- Establish and manage precision alignment processes, including methods, procedures, and software
- Conduct testing and characterization of optical performance, including process selection and criteria establishment
- Collaborate closely with the process engineering team to address physics-based interdependencies
- Work alongside mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to create a robust and scalable system architecture
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in opto-mechanical systems design and development
- Proven hands-on experience with optical assemblies
- Proficiency in precision alignment and CAD, including GD&T and detailed drawing documentation relevant to opto-mechanics
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering and physics
- Systems-level thinker with the ability to perform detailed work; experience delivering complex opto-mechanical systems
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in optics, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design
- Familiarity with high-power lasers (tens to hundreds of watts)
- Experience designing optics for industrial applications such as semiconductor processing, laser cutting, and long-distance laser communication
- Ability to perform system-level and component-level opto-mechanical tolerancing
- Experience with athermalization design, particularly with high-power lasers
- Knowledge of optical simulation software (e.g., Zemax or Code V)
- Basic understanding of image and signal processing
- Familiarity with motion control and kinematics
- Experience in designing fluid or thermal systems

Compensation:
As a growing organization, our salary range is intentionally broad, allowing us to tailor compensation packages based on individual experience, educational background, and unique skills demonstrated throughout the interview process.
Our goal is to provide a salary that reflects the company's current stage of development while enabling employee growth within their role.
In addition to a substantial stock option package, the estimated salary range for this position is $110,000-$140,000, encompassing all levels of seniority within this discipline.
