About the Role

">

The Database Performance Expert will be responsible for ensuring the high availability and optimal performance of our PostgreSQL databases associated with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). This role will involve participating in cross-functional project teams developing software involving these databases, monitoring systems, and providing proactive preventative maintenance and recommendations for improvements and optimizations for current and future designs.

This position will assist in developing data migrations, upgrading databases, participating in data warehousing efforts, and developing suitable test plans for these changes. Additionally, this role will involve participating in SQL development and mentoring other engineers in optimizing and writing efficient queries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning">

The Database Performance Expert will be responsible for developing and proactively reviewing performance monitoring of production PostgreSQL databases to ensure they meet the required standards.

">Database Parameters and System Settings">

The incumbent will evaluate database parameters and system settings for performance and recommend improvements as databases scale.

">System Capacity Planning">

This role will participate in system capacity planning to ensure that the databases can handle increased traffic and usage.

">Database Design and Data Modeling">

The Database Performance Expert will participate in database design and data modeling and provide recommendations for improvement or optimizations.

">Query and Index Optimizations">

This role will provide query and index optimizations to improve the performance of the databases.

">Agile Software Development Life-Cycle">

The incumbent will participate in an agile software development life-cycle, including providing testing guidelines for database-related changes.

">SQL Development Support">

This role will provide SQL development support, evaluate query plans, and participate in query tuning.

">Mentoring and Training">

The Database Performance Expert will mentor other engineers in developing efficient SQL queries.

">Report Development">

This role will assist in developing reports.

">Interpersonal and Communication Skills">

The incumbent will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with cross-functional team members.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • ">
  • Bachelor's Degree in IT or Related Field">

A Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field is required. Alternatively, a High School Diploma/General Education Diploma and 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.

">Experience with PostgreSQL">

The incumbent must have at least 3 years of experience managing a production RDBMS, including experience with PostgreSQL.

">Optimization and Performance Tuning">

This role requires 1+ year of experience with optimizing database performance through proactive testing and ongoing real-time monitoring.

">Technical Skills">

The Database Performance Expert should be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel macros and pivot tables. They should also have coursework or professional working knowledge of SQL development and database design, PostgreSQL (tuning, optimization parameters, replication techniques, and data warehouse design), DML, and DDL.

">Coursework or Professional Knowledge">

The incumbent should have demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

">Authorization to Work in the United States">

The candidate must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Coursework or professional working knowledge with Java development stack, Hibernate, and SDLC is preferred.

">AWS Cloud Base Database Administration">

Coursework or professional working knowledge with AWS cloud base database administration and Amazon RDS support is also preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

">

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $85,000-$135,000, depending on location and experience.
