Pharmacy Intern – Inpatient Pharmacy

Position Overview:

As a Pharmacy Intern, you will operate under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist, executing various responsibilities that include the preparation of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, and processing prescriptions. During your shifts in Medication History and ambulatory care, you will gather and document comprehensive medication histories to prevent duplications, omissions, and errors. You will engage with patients to collect vital information and, when necessary, utilize drug information resources and liaise with community pharmacies, outpatient providers, and family members to gather essential medication details and facilitate coordinated care. Additionally, you may be assigned specific projects to enhance pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direct oversight of a registered pharmacist, prepare and dispense medications, including sterile products.
  • Receive and organize incoming pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate records in the computer system.
  • Thoroughly collect medication histories from diverse sources.
  • Input data accurately into various electronic medical records (EMRs) and pharmacy informatics systems to assist healthcare providers in formulating treatment plans and medication orders.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with the healthcare team.
  • Exhibit adaptability and maintain performance under pressure.
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.
  • Possess familiarity with standard practices and procedures in the pharmacy field.
  • Utilize limited experience and judgment to achieve objectives.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance as a fundamental job function.
  • Demonstrate competence in addressing the age-specific needs of the assigned unit.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Preferred one year of relevant experience.
  • Possession of an Idaho Pharmacy Intern License is mandatory.
  • Licensure must align with Idaho State regulations.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift or move items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Capacity to maintain a standing position for extended periods.
  • Utilization of standard clinical equipment.
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, or bend as required.
