Pharmacy Intern – Inpatient Pharmacy
Position Overview:
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will operate under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist, engaging in various responsibilities that include the preparation of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, and the processing of prescriptions. Your role will also involve gathering and documenting comprehensive medication histories to prevent errors and ensure patient safety. You will interact with patients to collect necessary information and may need to consult with external pharmacies and healthcare providers to coordinate care effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, assist in compounding and dispensing medications, as well as preparing sterile products.
- Receive and organize incoming pharmaceutical supplies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records by verifying stock and entering data into the computer system.
- Thoroughly collect medication histories from various sources to ensure accuracy.
- Input data into electronic medical records (EMRs) and pharmacy systems to aid healthcare providers in developing treatment plans.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with other healthcare team members.
- Exhibit adaptability and the ability to perform under pressure.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
- Possess familiarity with standard practices and procedures in the pharmacy field.
- Utilize limited experience and judgment to achieve objectives.
- Maintain regular attendance as a critical job function.
- Be competent in addressing the age-specific needs of the assigned unit.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Preferred experience of at least one year in a related field.
- Must hold a valid Idaho Pharmacy Intern License.
- Licensure must align with Idaho State regulations.
Work Environment:
- Ability to lift or move items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Must be capable of maintaining a standing position for extended periods.
- Utilize standard clinical equipment.
- Ability to stoop, crouch, or bend as necessary.
