Job Description

Job Title: Middle School History Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and passionate Middle School History Teacher to join our team at Uncommon Schools. As a Middle School History Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching History classes to students in grades 6-8, developing and implementing engaging lesson plans, and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Teach History classes to students in grades 6-8, including primary and secondary source analysis, argumentation, corroboration, inquiry, and historiography
  • Develop and implement assessments to measure student learning and progress
  • Participate in grade-level team meetings to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies
  • Partner with students' families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs
  • Participate in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model our core values, and encourage student achievement

Requirements:

  • A commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and investment in our vision for being an anti-racist organization
  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting students' social emotional and academic development
  • A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred)
  • Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
  • Prior to the start of employment, you must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
