POSITION OVERVIEW:


Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a Working Farm Manager who will be actively involved in both crop and cow/calf production operations, overseeing daily activities for a North Dakota agricultural producer.

The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in row crop, forage, and cow/calf production, taking responsibility for personnel, equipment, and assisting with the procurement of fertilizers, chemicals, and other essential inputs.

This position offers a General Management opportunity for the right candidate as the owner plans to gradually reduce involvement without selling the operation.

EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY IN A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT:

  • Assist in hiring, training, and supervising staff engaged in farming tasks such as planting, cultivating, harvesting, and storing crops
  • Regularly inspect equipment condition, perform daily maintenance, and prepare it for use, while coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Conduct equipment maintenance and repairs as time and resources allow
  • Analyze soil to determine necessary fertilizers and amendments for optimal crop yield (in collaboration with consultants)
  • Harvest and store crops to meet cattle and production objectives
  • Maintain environmental records related to farming activities and precipitation
  • Oversee all phases of planting through to harvest
  • Coordinate with the farm team on specific agricultural activities
  • Conduct weekly meetings with staff involved in farming operations
  • In the ranching/cow-calf sector, business management and budgeting experience is highly preferred. The manager will oversee the commercial cow herd, with direct husbandry responsibilities and leadership over production staff. A self-motivated individual who can inspire others is essential for this progressive ranch.
Responsibilities include: Health - Vaccination protocols, diagnosing, breeding (A.I. and natural service), calving, and proper tagging. Commercial Herd - Maintain cattle records, including calving, matings, and culling. Ensure comprehensive accounting for each class of cattle.

Nutrition - Implement a mineral program, conduct monthly forage sampling, and oversee improvements. Maintain corrals, sheds, fences, and equipment. Build and implement new enhancements. Manage cattle movement effectively. Range Health - Ensure excellent range health through annual monitoring and documentation.

- Keep grazing records for each pasture. - Financial - Assist in drafting and managing the annual operating budget while adhering to it. - Labor Management - Lead and direct non-office employees, managing part-time, seasonal, and day help. - Foster a team-oriented environment, creating a positive workplace culture. - Regularly meet with the owner to review progress on goals and budget adherence. - Innovate by adopting improved methods of beef production.
