Railroad Switchman

We are seeking a skilled Railroad Switchman to join our team at Trans Global Solutions. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains and railcars through our switching yards.

• Assemble trains and switch railroad cars in a yard, ensuring accurate and timely movement of railcars.
• Work with Locomotive Engineers to add fuel, water, oil, and sand to locomotives as needed.
• Perform safety inspections of locomotives and railcars to identify and address any issues.
• Make necessary repairs to locomotives and railcars to maintain operation.
• Uncouple loaded cars at their destination or distribute empty cars to siding or loading areas.
• Operate railcar handbrakes and rail track switches to control the movement of trains.
• Communicate effectively with Locomotive Engineers through hand signals or two-way radio.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; related experience and/or training preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds.
• Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude, with ability to operate railcar handbrakes and rail track switches.
• Good hearing and vision, with ability to work in a loud environment.

The work environment for this position is fast-paced and dynamic, with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
