Locomotive Engineer

The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for safely operating a diesel-electric locomotive and train, adhering to all applicable rules and regulations. This involves interpreting train orders, signals, and railroad rules to transport freight.

• Inspect and prepare the locomotive for operation, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and schedules.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs to rail car equipment, including adjusting brakes and replacing defective parts.
• Confer with Conductor, Switchman, or Brakeman via radiophone to coordinate stops, delays, or conflicting movements.
• Maintain a lookout for obstructions on the track or right-of-way and report any findings.
• Prepare reports to explain accidents, unscheduled stops, or delays.

• High degree of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.
• Locomotive Engineer certificate issued in accordance with 49 CFR, Part 240.
• Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
• Knowledge of FRA regulations.
• Safety training/certification as required by customers and TGS.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to make quick and sound judgments and manual dexterity.
• Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
• Pass the Hearing and vision test.
