Auto Body Technician Job Description

The Auto Body Technician is a key member of our team at Gerber Collision & Glass, responsible for delivering exceptional customer experiences through the meticulous assessment and quality repair of vehicles. As a skilled technician, you will play a pivotal role in restoring vehicles to their pre-accident condition, ensuring speed, quality, and customer excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute the WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan consistently.
  • Plan and prepare cost estimates for customers, utilizing various tools to repair vehicle sections.
  • Repair dents, dimples, and minor body damage, and mix and apply filler resins when necessary.
  • Realign car chassis and frames to repair structural damage.
  • Remove and replace damaged vehicle sections with new or aftermarket parts.
  • Repair or replace glass and windshields as needed.
  • Replace or repair interior parts as needed.
  • Weld and attach parts, and prepare and repaint vehicles with factory-specified paint or agreed-upon equivalent.
  • Complete work orders within labor time guidelines and inspect vehicles after repair.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a technical school program or a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read job orders and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with other repairers within an auto body shop.
  • Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies.
  • Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • Ability to visually inspect vehicle damage in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
