Job Summary

The State of Colorado is seeking a highly skilled and motivated CPW Property Technician IV to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining State Wildlife Areas, including stream/river access, signs, parking areas, and lease renewals. This is a new position that will prioritize managing and maintaining State Wildlife Areas within Eagle County, including Gypsum Ponds SWA, Eagle River SWA, Black Lakes SWA, Vail Underpass SWA, Heart Lake SWA, Brush Creek SWA, Berry Creek STL, Whiskey Creek STL, Old Mans Gulch STL, and assist on SWAs throughout Area 8.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain State Wildlife Areas, including stream/river access, signs, parking areas, and lease renewals.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining State Wildlife Areas in Roaring Fork valley of Area 8, including Basalt SWA, Sam Caudill SWA, Bob Terrell SWA, Beaver Lake SWA, Roaring Fork SWA, Burry SWA, Jackson SWA, Frying Pan SWA, Coke Ovens SWA, Crystal River Ranch SWA, Lazy V Quarter Circle Ranch SWA, Williams Hill SWA.
  • Enhance and improve wildlife habitat on State Wildlife Areas utilizing various tools such as mechanical tree mastication, hand clearing of trees, prescribed burns, prescribed livestock grazing, noxious weed treatment, tillage, and spring/water development.
  • Fully utilize all water rights owned by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Area 8, report and record all use of water rights in Area 8, and improve and maintain all infrastructure associated with water rights in Area 8.
  • Procure, repair, and maintain all Area structures, facilities, and equipment.
  • Provide customer service at the Area 8 SWAs, in the field, for questions and assist with nuisance wildlife calls within the area.
  • Monitor expenses, track budget, make purchasing decisions, prepare reports, develop work plans, apply for and administer grant applications, coordinate projects with AWM, AAWM, DWMs, Bios, renew leases, recruit, hire, and support temporary workers and volunteers.
Requirements
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in construction, carpentry, equipment/machinery operation, farming, ranching, range land management, wildlife/habitat management, resource management, landscaping, facility maintenance/management, HVAC, plumbing, welding, electrical, or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • OR a combination of related education in construction or project management, natural resources, environmental science, recreation management, business, or a related field of study equal to four (4) years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience.
  • Current or former State experience relevant to this position.
  • Possesses current trade certifications or licenses.
Working Conditions

This position requires use of pesticides and fuel. Possess or willingness to obtain Colorado Department of Agriculture Qualified license for the application of pesticides or herbicides.
