This role is integral to the Y, a prominent non-profit organization committed to community enhancement through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Aquatics Team Supervisor is tasked with executing Lifeguard and Swim Instructor responsibilities while fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals. In this position, you will lead by example, ensuring member engagement and safety by upholding safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas in line with YMCA policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the safety of all members by actively monitoring the water and pool deck, identifying safety concerns, enforcing regulations, and adhering to YMCA emergency protocols.
- Deliver swimming lessons focusing on both basic and advanced stroke techniques to youth participants.
- Execute necessary rescue operations, provide first aid and CPR as per YMCA guidelines, and complete related documentation as needed.
- Develop class lesson plans that promote a natural progression of skills suitable for the age and abilities of participants.
- Assist the Aquatic Program Director with scheduling tasks.
- Participate in staff training and emergency drills.
- Demonstrate effective deck management practices and lead by example.
- Consistently communicate and apply safety regulations, policies, and guidelines for aquatic areas.
- Attend regular training and certification sessions.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with members, participants, and fellow staff.
- You are dedicated to promoting diversity and fostering an inclusive environment.
- You possess current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen administration.
- You are at least 16 years of age.
- You have a minimum of six months of relevant aquatics experience.
- You have prior experience working with youth and diverse communities.
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Regularly engage in conversations with members and program participants.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands for grasping and reaching.
- Occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to see and observe all areas of responsibility.
- Regularly work in water and perform all necessary lifeguard skills.
- Remain alert and responsive to signals in the aquatic environment.
Work Schedule: Part-Time, up to 25 hours per week.
