Position Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse I (LPN I) operates under the guidelines established by the Georgia Board of Nursing and adheres to organizational protocols. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Physician, the LPN I delivers both direct and indirect nursing services to enhance patient health and prevent illness. This role includes educating patients and families while coordinating care effectively. Collaboration with the Health Care Team (HCT) and leadership is essential to ensure the provision of high-quality care that aligns with established health standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for consultations by reviewing medical history, gathering relevant clinical data (such as height, weight, and screening results), measuring vital signs, and documenting findings accurately.
  • Address care gaps during patient interactions and complete necessary documentation.
  • Set up examination rooms and equipment for procedures, assisting practitioners as required.
  • Initiate nursing interventions and document patient responses to treatments in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participate in emergency response activities as directed by a practitioner or registered nurse.
  • Provide patient education and distribute preparation materials for diagnostic tests following established guidelines.
  • Schedule patient appointments for laboratory tests, imaging, or specialist consultations as ordered.
  • Monitor and manage electronic communications related to patient or provider inquiries within the scope of practice.
  • Engage in departmental or regional quality improvement initiatives.
  • Involve patients, families, and caregivers in the care coordination process.
  • Address and resolve patient concerns in a timely manner.
  • Conduct orientation and training for new team members on standard practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise unlicensed personnel in the delivery of patient care as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • N/A

Education
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program (LPN/LVN).

Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Valid Practical Nurse License (Georgia) required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of a Customer Service Assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills through the Customer Service Assessment.

Notes

  • Cross-training in one or two additional departments may be required.
