Job Summary:

The University Hospital, Newark NJ is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician - Surgical Histology to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory staff, you will be responsible for performing routine and special laboratory procedures related to surgical pathology, maintaining divisional supplies, and assisting in routine and specimen functions according to Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and special laboratory procedures related to surgical pathology, including sectioning of fresh surgical tissue for frozen section, utilizing the cryostat, and fixing, staining, mounting, and labeling the frozen section.
  • Maintain divisional supplies and frozen section supplies ready for immediate use.
  • Assist in routine and specimen functions according to Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain daily and monthly QC reports.
  • Label and dispose of biohazard waste in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of Associate's Degree in a Hospital laboratory related science required.
  • Three (3) years of related laboratory experience is preferred. One (1) year of which should be in a health care environment is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties.
