Job Summary

As a Mechanical Systems Engineer at Butler America Aerospace, LLC., you will be responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical and fluid support systems for the Reuse Program on Vulcan Development. You will apply various analytical methods to quantify strength and stability margins, including closed-form solutions, FEA, and fatigue/fracture mechanics. Your expertise in mechanical engineering principles will be essential in planning, designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform strength, fatigue, and fracture analysis of structural components, including non-linear analysis for the Vulcan Development Structural Analysis Team.
  • Create analysis models, perform hand calculations, and have an understanding of analysis best practices to provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs and installations.
  • Review and approve 3-D engineering layouts, 3-D models, designs/drawings, and 2-D drawing changes for mechanical system components.
  • Make engineering design recommendations considering thermal, mechanical, and pressure loading using appropriate material properties, configurations, safety factors, etc.
  • Document analysis results in strength reports.
  • Support internal peer reviews, tabletop reviews, and formal design reviews as needed.
  • Evaluate hardware non-conformances to support production activities.
  • Work independently and coordinate efforts across functional and product teams.
  • Utilize NX CAD/Simulation, NASGRO fracture mechanic's tool, Unix/Linux mainframe-based analysis tools, MathCad, ABAQUS, Matlab, and MS office (word, excel, ppt).

Requirements

  • 5-9 years of experience as a Strength Engineer or similar Engineering roles.

Preferred Tools/Software

  • NASTRAN (Static, Modal, Dynamic, and Non-Linear Analysis Solutions).
  • FEMAP pre/post processor.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
