Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is responsible for executing accounting functions and analysis related to purchasing, inventory management, disbursements, and the cost of goods sold cycle for a global sporting goods consumer products company. The role will support the financial closing process by preparing assigned journal entries and conducting account reconciliations. Additionally, this position will assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, external audits, and various tax-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Calculate and maintain standard costs for overhead components such as freight and duties, ensuring accuracy in factory and subcomponent costs.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of the inventory subledger to the general ledger, investigating and adjusting for any discrepancies.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations for all balance sheet and profit & loss accounts affected by the inventory and COGS cycle.
  • Manage reserves for excess, discontinued, and obsolete inventory.
  • Validate and document results from periodic inventory counts and annual physical inventory assessments.
  • Collaborate with product development and supply chain teams to ensure comprehensive cost, price, and margin analysis for new inventory items.
  • Develop and maintain a pricing analysis model based on cost evaluations.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly royalty reports and remittances, ensuring proper accounting for new license agreements.
  • Calculate and submit all duty drawback claims and assist legal counsel with duty protest claims.
  • Analyze month-end margins, focusing on variances due to cost changes and shifts in product and customer mix.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process and semiannual reforecasting.
  • Enhance reporting tools within ERP and Business Intelligence systems to analyze gross margins by various metrics.
  • Familiarity with Great Plains ERP system is advantageous.
  • Engage in additional projects as assigned.
Position Details:
  • This is a full-time role based at the corporate headquarters.
  • Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • No travel is anticipated for this position.
Compensation Transparency
  • The company is dedicated to equitable and transparent compensation practices. Final salary will be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
  • The salary range for this position is between $95,000 and $105,000.
  • Additional compensation opportunities, such as bonuses, may be available. Employees may also qualify for a variety of benefits, including health and wellness programs, retirement plans, paid time off, employee discounts, and more.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This role does not include direct supervisory duties but requires collaboration with various departments and oversight of work performed by others prior to ledger entries.
Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • 5-10 years of accounting experience, preferably in the consumer products or retail sector.
  • Familiarity with Great Plains ERP system is a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel, including pivot tables and V-lookups, as well as other Microsoft Office applications.
