CAD Engineer for Computational Physical Sciences

A challenging opportunity has arisen for a skilled CAD Engineer to join our team at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) in Dayton, OH. As a CAD Engineer for Computational Physical Sciences, you will be responsible for creating high-quality CAD models and preparing them for analysis using various computational physics software packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accept CAD models in multiple formats from external sources and prepare them for analysis by performing tasks such as defeaturing, surface healing, and Boolean operations.
  • Generate high-quality meshes using multiple meshing programs based on the unique requirements of different computational methods.
  • Write scripts to speed up the process of generating meshes of various densities for a single geometry.
  • Understand how CAD and mesh quality affect the ability of individual computational physics packages to compute accurate results.
  • Occasionally reverse engineer CAD components using laser scanning or approximating components based on photographs or CT scans.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience with CAD software and at least one of the following packages: Solidworks, Capstone, CUBIT, Rhinoceros 3D, CATIA, Hypermesh, AutoCAD, Patran, NASTRAN, NX, or Creo.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active security clearance.
  • Knowledge of or eagerness to learn computational analysis, scripting, and other related skills.
