Job Description

EDPR is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Senior Manager to join our Development Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing engineering requests for all projects in Development, supporting the Engineering team in electrical design for wind, solar, energy storage, and other renewable technology projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage engineering requests for all projects in Development
  • Support the Engineering team in electrical design for wind, solar, energy storage, and other renewable technology projects
  • Provide training to Electrical Project Engineers
  • Prepare electrical-related scope documents, exhibits, budgets, specifications, schedules, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Interact closely with internal teams to ensure that project needs and objectives are met
  • Lead or participate in project meetings and conference calls
  • Ensure the production of quality electrical engineering plans, studies, and specifications while ensuring compliance with department, project, company, utility, regional electrical entity, and industry requirements and standards
  • Expedite and support consultants' document submittals, budgets, and schedules
  • Participate in engineering design and construction review processes
  • Lead and conduct value-add engineering studies of alternative design approaches
  • Support all development projects for electrical engineering related queries
  • Provide PV/MV engineering support to Solar Business Development Engineering and Storage Business Development Engineering groups
  • Maintain active involvement in all phases of Development Engineering work related to electrical design
  • Provide preliminary internal engineering needed to support the Development pipeline
  • Prepare simulation models and perform studies for load flow, reactive power capability, annual electrical power loss, DC, LV AC, and MV cable sizing, voltage drop, short circuit, grounding, and other power system studies as necessary
  • Ensure that the electrical portion of the BoP/EPC and long lead equipment estimate are optimized
  • Review and interpret design drawings, specifications, and documents related to project design
  • Analyze complex engineering problems and offer effective and efficient resolutions in a timely manner
  • Conduct value-engineering studies of alternative design approaches
  • Maintain and improve existing scope of works, guidelines, specifications, schedule, and budget template
  • Collaborate with Operations and Asset Management staff to ensure that designs capture operational experience and needs
  • Review interconnection related documents and coordinate with Execution Engineering Group to ensure requirement (including NERC and FERC) are communicated for a compliant project design
  • Direct and manage due-diligence review of wind, solar farm, and storage electrical designs by independent engineers
  • Assist with overseeing, guiding, and managing the work of third-party consultants
  • Occasionally participate in meetings with utility and Independent System Operators and guide a discussion on project behalf
  • Serve as an interface between the Engineering group and internal clients
  • Create and maintain databases and various reports to streamline internal processes
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Provides necessary technical documents to support RFI and RFP release to potential construction contractor
  • Reviews RFI responses and works with Estimation, Construction, Procurement, and Development to update CAPEX estimates as necessary
  • Lead technical review of any IM&A project by performing due diligence and providing a technical memo
  • Implement lessons learned and industry and company best practices consistent with the Central Technical Direction initiative
  • Maintain and foster relationship with major contractors and equipment vendors

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 10 years of planning, design, and engineering experience is required
  • 2 years of engineering project management experience
  • Renewable Energy experience is preferred
  • Ability to manage the work of third-party consultants and service contracts
  • Power utility experience is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of distribution systems; transmission systems; medium and high voltage substation electrical equipment; steady and dynamics modeling of power pools, the interconnection request process, lightning protection; and grounding grids

Up to 30%

Ability to walk .5 to 2 miles per day, including across unpaved and rough surfaces when on project sites.

Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written verbal, diagram, or scheduled form

Lifting :

Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds

Vision/Hearing :

Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
