Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Children's Services Librarian to join our team at Naperville Public Library. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing reference and Readers' Advisory services to Library customers, maintaining the children's collection, and promoting Library resources, programs, and services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, training, and guidance to staff and the public in Children's Services areas and in the use of electronic resources.
  • Provide reference and Reader's Advisory assistance for customers, including topical research and material location in person, by telephone, and via email.
  • Maintain current knowledge of new materials, services, relevant technology, and library trends.
  • Work with Collection Services to manage the children's collection, evaluating materials for replacement, repair, or withdrawal from the Library collection.
  • Plan and conduct programs for children, including developing and implementing new concepts and themes.
  • Proactively participate in outreach activities with Library partners.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and IT to add content and promote relevant services on the Library website and associated social networking sites.
  • Assist in conducting library tours and other outreach activities as required.
  • Oversee other staff and volunteers.
  • Prepare reports and statistics for review as requested.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor computer hardware and software issues.
  • Attend professional development opportunities.
Requirements:
  • Master of Library and Information Science degree (ALA accredited college/university).
  • Library experience required.
  • Bilingual proficiency a plus.
Work Environment:

The Children's Services Librarian will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a team of dedicated professionals. The successful candidate will be required to communicate effectively with staff and customers in person and over the phone, and may be required to move equipment or library materials weighing up to 35 lbs.

Work Schedule:

The Children's Services Librarian will work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends, with a minimum of one Saturday and one Sunday per month.
