Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Party Chief to join our team at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Inc. As a key member of our survey operations team, you will be responsible for leading field survey crews and overseeing the completion of field survey phases for various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, engineers, and contractor representatives to ensure a thorough understanding of project requirements.
  • Assign and monitor work, providing input for the evaluation of team members and ensuring the successful completion of tasks.
  • Train and instruct survey crew members in survey and mapping methods, equipment operation, and field safety procedures.
  • Complete daily report cards and field note sketches to document progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide time estimates for specific tasks and perform complex surveying calculations using calculators, computers, and coordinate geometry software.
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management, including setting expectations, goals, feedback, and coaching.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a crew leader in survey operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of coordinate geometry and math functions.
  • Experience with Total Stations, GPS, and data collectors, preferably Trimble or Carlson.
  • Knowledge of all positions on the crew and ability to utilize all equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level.
Working Conditions

The work environment is primarily field-based, with 90% of time spent outdoors. The ability to perform extensive bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs is required. Work may be conducted in various weather conditions.

Office work is sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions within the office environment.
