Environmental Services Technician

The Environmental Services Technician at Butler Hospital is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This includes cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas, restrooms, and offices, as well as replenishing supplies and performing project work such as wall washing and floor buffing.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a cleaning cart in an orderly condition and keeping it fully stocked with required cleaning supplies.
- Removing all waste, including regular rubbish, cardboard, recycle confidential paper, and hazardous material.
- Following proper procedures concerning hazardous waste disposal and handling.
- Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms completely.
- Replenishing all supplies, including soap, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and paper towels.
- Daily disinfecting of assigned areas, offices, corridors, elevators, stairwells, patient rooms, and cleaning/making beds that are vacant due to patient discharge or transfer.
- Performing project work such as wall washing, window washing, curtain changing, cleaning of waste containers, floor buffing, refinishing floors, floor scrubbing, carpet cleaning, and operating heavy-duty electrical equipment.
- Sweeping, mopping, wet-washing, and vacuuming floors.
- Moving furniture and completing conference room setups.
- Collecting soiled linens and transporting them to the laundry, and returning clean linen to the proper linen closets.
- Turning and changing mattresses and completing bed moves.
- Disinfecting areas by scrubbing or wiping.
- Completing assigned work orders.
- Operating the hospital dump truck to move supplies, furniture, or transport waste to the compactors.
- Reporting any mechanical failures and negative conditions.
The Environmental Services Technician must demonstrate competence and compassion in day-to-day interactions with patients, family members, or friends who may be present at Butler Hospital.
This position reports to the EVS Manager or Supervisor(s) and has a strong relationship with patients, family members, all other hospital staff, and employees.
Qualifications include:
- A high school diploma is preferred.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- The ability to follow oral and written instructions, with on-the-job training provided.
