Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substance Abuse Counselor II to join our team at the Travis County State Jail in Austin, Texas. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in helping individuals overcome addiction and achieve a healthy, productive life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and coordinating chemical dependency counseling programs to meet the needs of offenders with histories of substance abuse or addiction.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess the recovery needs and re-offense risk of offenders, and develop individual treatment plans accordingly.
  • Provide counseling and recovery skills training, and participate in offender orientation, educational, and individual and process counseling groups.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, including statistical feedback and data compilation for reports and documentation.
  • Supervise the work of others and assist in instructing staff in program methods, procedures, and functions.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent required.
  • Two years of full-time, wage-earning experience in substance abuse treatment or education.
  • Current valid license as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or certification as a Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP) by the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals.
  • A valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must successfully complete annual background checks and in-service training requirements.
