Earthwork Superintendent - Asphalt Construction Job Summary:

Jarbo Employment Group is seeking an experienced Earthwork Superintendent to lead our Asphalt Construction team in Kansas City. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day job site activities, ensuring OSHA safety compliance, and managing site pre-construction, including pre-construction survey, job site utilization, and staging plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct field personnel according to the project plan and organizational supervisory principles.
  • Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager.
  • Report any problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with clients and internal team members.
  • Request advice and assistance from the Leadership Team on matters pertaining to materials, sequencing, scheduling, and personnel.
  • Attend all Project Start-Up/Turnover Meetings, mobilization, and project coordination meetings.
  • Identify pre-mobilization activities in conjunction with the Leadership Team and the Project Manager.
  • Develop a start-up schedule with the Project Manager and send it to the Leadership Team for review.
  • Recognize the importance of participating in training programs by contributing as a Subject Matter Expert.
  • Ensure that as-built working drawings are maintained, as well as the current drawing log and revision log, communicating this to team members and subcontractors as needed.

Scheduling:

  • Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field.
  • Establish and implement the Project Baseline Schedule based on project contracts and subcontractor input, taking into account any elements that might impact the schedule.
  • Maintain the schedule and ensure that work performed is consistent with the contract and will meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Update the Project Schedule daily/weekly/monthly as needed.
  • Provide progress reports with a look-ahead of the schedule to the Project Manager and field staff.

Safety:

  • Ensure that all team members participate in a safety pre-construction meeting prior to starting work on the project.
  • Review the project daily to ensure that all activities are being performed in accordance with all OSHA and governing requirements and the project site-specific safety plan.

Quality Management:

  • Ensure that all pertinent benchmarks for the project are established and inserted into the baseline schedule.
  • Ensure that all first delivery inspections and benchmark inspections occur per the baseline schedule to avoid impacting the progression of subsequent work.
  • Ensure that inspections are approved, documented, and communicated to the project team.

Site Management throughout the Project:

  • Manage site pre-construction, including pre-construction survey, job site utilization, and staging plans.
  • Mobilize the field office and maintain the job site to organizational standards.
  • Organize documentation of the job site for easy access and review.
  • Manage outside subcontractor performance to quality and ethical standards.
  • Work with the Project Manager to identify and resolve personnel issues and construction process revisions.
  • Manage all phases of the construction process, including documenting and reporting site activities and progress, managing excavations, and assisting with the Job Site Utilization Plan.
  • Manage subcontractor closeout, transfer of utilities, owner training, work list, and punch list.

Team Leadership:

  • Strive to create synergy and a teamwork atmosphere on the project.
  • Lead by example by establishing work ethic guidelines for the entire team and establishing boundaries and expectations.
  • Take action immediately when personal conflicts emerge among the team.

Qualifications:

  • High School/GED is required.
  • 10+ years of related experience in the Earthwork/Excavation/Utility construction fields.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have at least OSHA10; OSHA30 preferred.
