Position Summary: Titanium Healthcare is on the lookout for a dedicated Billing Specialist to enhance our vibrant and expanding team. This role entails the management, assessment, and invoicing of claims as well as outstanding accounts receivable within our electronic health records (EHR) system. The specialist will ensure the integrity of EHR data in relation to accounts receivable, engage in data entry and reporting, and handle billing responsibilities. Furthermore, the specialist will guarantee that information is processed correctly, payments are recorded, and denials are addressed promptly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and communicate denial trends and issues to internal team members, collaborating effectively with management to resolve them swiftly.
- Evaluate patient accounts, addressing insurance and patient outstanding payments, and articulating reasons for balances directly with patients.
- Oversee, track, and resolve complex denied and voided claims, ensuring follow-through until claims are settled.
- Maximize reimbursement for services rendered.
- Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance providers, including 837 and 1500 claims.
- Monitor and document payment plans for patient statements.
- Exhibit proactivity, creativity, and flexibility in identifying, evaluating, researching, and resolving issues.
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet both external and internal deadlines.
- Accurately and promptly post payments to accounts.
- Collaborate with the revenue cycle manager and operational leadership on recurring issues, providing insights on error correction strategies. Continuously develop claim resolution skills through training and workshops.
- Conduct bi-monthly eligibility checks for clients and compile reports for management regarding clients with terminated Medi-Cal.
- Prioritize tasks and establish a tracking system for claims and health plans in progress.
- Respond to inquiries and communications in a timely manner (typically within 24-48 hours).
- Assist in the formulation and review of billing procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma is required; an associate degree in a medical field is preferred.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in clinical accounts receivable, practice management, or medical administration is required.
- Language: Proficiency in English (both written and verbal) is essential; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
- Required Skills:
- Ability to understand and become proficient in medical billing software.
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal, Medicare, commercial, and patient statement billing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and related applications.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness are crucial.
- Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment in decision-making across various situations.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Capacity to multitask, prioritize, and complete projects effectively.
- Ability to work independently and self-direct, with excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with primary care and Medi-Cal billing is preferred.
- Familiarity with EClinicalWorks is advantageous.
Physical Requirements: This role involves typical office work and may require driving, including but not limited to:
- Consistent operation of a computer and other office equipment such as telephones, calculators, copiers, and printers.
- Remaining stationary for approximately 75% of the time.
- Mobility around the office for up to 50% of the time.
- Occasional lifting or carrying of office equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to operate a vehicle and travel to meetings or different office locations as needed.
